What Hops May Come
Many of you may have noticed that Ember IPA made it’s exit from our lineup of year-round offerings. You may have also noticed that we’re churning out a new IPA every couple of weeks, each one challenging the last for dominance and excellence. Truth be told, we were already over Ember, but winning the NM IPA Challenge was the final nail in the coffin. It lacked the punch and finesse we wanted, so we tasked John with recreating our house IPA.
In January 2015, our hop contracts kick in and bring an abundance of many of our favorite hops (El Dorado, Simcoe, Amarillo and Mosaic to name a few), affording us the luxury to push the limits of creativity and production (an aside: Acequia Wet Hop IPA and Scale Tipper: Batch #4 American IPA are in competition at the GABF). Until the hop floodgates open, we’re going to play around with hop blends, malt bills, and flavor profiles until we’re completely satisfied. Look for the unveiling of a completely reimagined house IPA in January. In the meantime, enjoy the rotating door of experimental IPAs!
On a different but related note, we have wanted to have a lager in our lineup of house beers. With the success of our first batch of Bosque Lager (yes, it's been entered in the GABF), we've made the decision to put it into the regular rotation and ultimately replace Kindling Golden Ale. The yeast is working its slow lager magic as we speak, so look for Bosque Lager to join the other full-timers in the coming weeks!
